Astrid Rothaug is an author, artist and illustrator based in Vienna.
Born 1996 in Vienna, she spent her childhood in lower Austria and moved to Vienna in 2014 for her studies at Die Angewandte, department graphics and printmaking. An exchange project between Die Angewandte and Kingston University offered her the chance to attend a workshop in animation and illustration lead by Martin Morris and Geoff Grandfield. The videos produced by the students were presented at the Austrian Embassy in London. In 2018 she received an erasmus scholarship at the FBAUL, Faculdade das Belas Artes Lisboa, where she attended classes in painting and illustration. In 2019 she finished her studies at Die Angewandte with honours. For her diploma show "PUZZLING", she was awarded the "Förderpreis des Landes Niederösterreich". In 2019 she received a scholarship for the workshop "drawn forms" by Massinissa Selmani at the summer academy, Salzburg.
BUNZI, a children's book illustrated by Astrid Rothaug and written by Christiane Ehlinger, was released by the publisher imprimerie centrale in 2017.
In 2018, Astrid Rothaug's book "Rasmus' Reise zum Mond", which she wrote and also illustrated, was published by "Verlag Bibliothek der Provinz".
Disvovering her passion for illustrating album artworks, Astrid Rothaug produced album artworks for musicians such as monophobe, Booxy's Box, Cluttered Clarity and Veriunddieluxuscombo. Only recently, she finished illustrations and a music video for the musician Claire Parsons. The album is called "In geometry" and will be released in may 2020.

In 2017 she was given the opportunity to develop a change of approach to her work at the residency program "ANTROPICAL" based in Steinfort, Luxembourg.
In 2020 she was chosen as an artist in residence by the digital residency "PLAN8T AIR" in Changsha, Hunan, China. The online exhibition entitled Digital Humanity will be running until June 2020.
